WBA awards scholarships

The Wheatfield Business Association awarded four scholarships during its May meeting at Westbys Pub & Grille. The 2014 scholarships were presented to Emily Belote, Joel Congi, Hannah Carrier and Jillian Wagner.

Belote, a Niagara-Wheatfield High School graduate and Class of 2014 salutatorian, plans to attend the University of Buffalo with a double major in engineering and clarinet performance. She won numerous recognitions and awards for her musical talents and her involvement on varsity soccer teams.

Congi, a N-W graduate, is planning to attend Daemen College, majoring in digital animation. He has achieved a black belt in karate at Project Future, is a talented musician and is very involved with the St. Vincent de Paul parish youth groups.

Carrier, a N-W graduate, plans to attend Niagara University majoring in hospitality or D'Youville College majoring in business marketing. She was listed on the high honor roll each semester during all four years of high school. She was a member of the high school's bands and choir.

Wagner, a N-W graduate, plans to attend the College at Brockport majoring in an aspect of social work with the goal of obtaining a master's degree. She maintained perfect attendance in school from the first through 12th grades, works with the family business and is an accomplished dancer.

The WBA scholarship committee, Chairman Danny Maerten, Rob Allen, Sharon DiPasquale and Gilles Dube, thank all the students who applied for scholarships; the choices were not easy, simple decisions, they said. The annual WBA scholarships are open to any graduating high school senior residing in the Town of Wheatfield.
