"Hope," the lost but now found Puggle under the care of Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue, will attend the August volunteer meeting. Join him Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m. inside First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St.

"Hope," pictured, slipped her collar upon her transport arrival in late fall of last year and was running in the woods in the Lewiston/Ransomville areas for several months. The rescue mobilized volunteers, sought the help of professionals and, with the perseverance and dedication of many, "Hope" was safely secured and brought to safety in early spring. She survived the long winter outside, continues to make positive strides and is adjusting well.

Volunteers will be able to visit with "Hope" and also enjoy the camaraderie of an ice cream social that will take place during the meeting, which is open to the public. Heart of Niagara invites new volunteers and everyone is welcome. Topics will include a recap the recent picnic and other 2014 events.

Heart of Niagara is 501(c) 3 not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. Volunteers have adopted out about 200 animals to date, and operate solely on donations and the generosity and support of the public.
