For four weeks in July and August, the History Center of Niagara will offer weekly children's programs. They will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning July 16 and continuing through Aug. 6.

The cost of the program is $20 per week. This includes all hands-on activities, craft materials and an afternoon snack each day. The programs are conducted by museum staff and volunteers at the Niagara County Historical Society, 215 Niagara St., Lockport.

Each week has a different historical theme. The schedule for the summer is:

July 16 - Animation Day: Learn how cartoons are made and make animated toys to take home with you

July 23 - Cowboy Day: Find out what it was like to be a cowboy in the Old West and make things that a cowboy would have used

July 30 - Ancient Egypt Day: Learn about mummies, hieroglyphics and everyday life during the time of the Pharaohs

Aug. 6 - Civil War Spy Day: Try your hand at being a spy during the Civil War and make devices that spies would have needed.

The programs are open to children ages 7 through 12. Reservations are required. Parents may leave their children for the duration of the program. Please call or email the History Center at 716-434-7433 or [email protected] for reservations and more information.
