Lewiston-Porter seeking host families

Lewiston-Porter High School is in need of host families for its International Student Diploma Program.

Lewiston-Porter is the only public high school in Western New York that will be bringing in international students, as tuition-paying students, to pursue a New York State Regents diploma and then continue their education at a local university.

In order to do this, the school needs to provide the students with host families, as Lew-Port does not have dormitory facilities.

At the present time, Principal Paul Casseri has 13 students that are pending acceptance. Families would receive a $5,000 stipend to offset living expenses incurred while hosting the students.

"We would like families of L-P students, L-P employees or any family living in the L-P school district," said Casseri. "This is a great opportunity for retirees or empty-nesters."

The students will be Lewiston-Porter students, picked up by a bus each day and as tuition-paying students they will be eligible for all L-P's extracurricular activities.

An informational meeting will be held Monday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m., in the high school library. A reservation for the meeting is requested and can be made by calling 716-286-7263.

Lewiston-Porter has a strong history of international exchanges with students most recently coming from China, Germany and France, and Lewiston-Porter students traveling to those countries. This program is another step in the progress Lew-Port has made in international diversity.
