Lewiston Public Library May programs, events

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of May.

•The library board of trustees will meet Monday, May 5, at 5 p.m., and the Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m.

•Movie screenings this month include: "Alice in Wonderland," Monday, May 5, at 6 p.m. Presented by the Lewiston Council on the Arts, this 1966 masterpiece starring Peter Sellers, Sir John Gielgud and Sir Michael Redgrave, is a gothic version in black and white, and captures the menacing undertones of Lewis Carroll's story while poking fun at middle-class England.

"Alice in Wonderland," the Walt Disney children's version, will be on screen Tuesday, May 20, at 6 p.m.

•The Jane Austen Book Club will discuss "Mansfield Park," Wednesday, May 28, at 6 p.m.

•A beginner's genealogy program with Peggy Taylor-Hulligan will be held Saturdays, May 17, 24 and 31, at 1 p.m. No registration is required.

The library will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

Library hours: Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
