Bandana's Bar & Grill

The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Bandana's Bar & Grill as the recipient of the Youngstown Business of the Year Award. The Youngstown Business and Professional Association assisted the chamber in providing a business nomination that has showed dedication and service to the Youngstown community. Bandana's Bar & Grill is a favorite place for both local residents and visitors to dine year round, providing good food and a great atmosphere.

Bandana's Bar & Grill has been owned and operated by Rob and Melissa Kudel since May of 2003. The restaurant, located at 930 Lake Road (Route 18F), was empty for three years before they went through the process to purchase it.

Rob and Melissa quickly made the location their own, centered on creating food and a place to hang out that reminded people of home.

The menu is full of comfort food, but with a Bandana's spin on it. Daily specials are featured on Facebook.

Over the years, Bandana's has adapted to the changing economy by keeping its menu fresh and affordable, providing catering options, take-out and delivery, creating an outdoor dining area, and most recently working to open a bed and breakfast across from the restaurant. Bandana's has also expanded its menu by offering breakfast seven days a week.

With a location that has its challenges by not being in a walkable community like a village, Rob and Melissa have worked hard to bring customers in. There is a dynamic mix of everything from families to bikers to customers from the golf course. Now with the breakfast addition, there are many customers who are seen more than once in a day.

The best thing about having a business in this Youngstown community is the small town feel - everyone is like family. Employees at Bandana's work hard to make everyone feel comfortable from the moment they step in the door. There is an average of 12 employees throughout the year, and as many as 20 during the summer.

Rob and Melissa have created a business that is successful, because of their interest in their customers and dedication to growing Bandana's. They support community events and programs that affect and involve their customers. They have supported events hosted by the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, Youngstown Business and Professional Association, Town of Porter, Lions Club, and many more.

Upcoming events include:

•Monday, May 19 - Bandana's will donate a portion of its sales to the Youngstown Free Library.

•Saturday, June 28 - The annual pool tournament to benefit Niagara Hospice.

•Sunday, July 27 - Bandana's fifth annual golf tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society in memory of Bill Mooney.

Open seven days a week, Bandana's is an important asset to the Niagara River Region community. Visit the eatery at 930 Lake Road and www.bandanasbarandgrill.com.

Daily specials and events are updated on Facebook at www.facebook.com/bandanas.barandgrill.

The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce and the Youngstown Business and Professional Association congratulate Bandana's Bar & Grill as the 2014 Youngstown Business of the Year.
