Plans are already underway to enhance the "greening" of the Lewiston Art Festival, which will take place Aug. 9-10. Lewiston Council on the Arts, which sponsors the festival, will expand its efforts to recycle and compost at the event in partnership with Modern. To emphasize the theme of recycling and reuse, the Modern ArtZone, a free, hands-on art activity area, will focus on creating art from discarded materials from noon to 4 p.m. each day of the festival.

"With an influx of tens of thousands of visitors, it creates a burden on our community, in terms of environmental impact," said Irene Rykaszewski, LCA executive director. "For these two days in Lewiston, we encourage everyone to be more aware of our fragile environment."
