At its meeting on Monday in Town Hall, the Grand Island Town Board issued a proclamation on the 70th anniversary of the Island Dispatch. The proclamation said, "since that inaugural issue, the Island Dispatch has continuously informed and entertained its readers, both on Grand Island and around the world." In making the proclamation, the board noted that the Dispatch is the official newspaper of the Town of Grand Island and this year was designated the official newspaper of the Erie County Legislature as well. The board congratulated the Dispatch and publishers Judy and Skip Mazenauer, who have owned the Dispatch for more than half its lifespan, and extended "heartfelt thanks to the Island Dispatch for their dedicated service to the people of our community, and its sincerest best wishes for their continued success."
