Marguerite C. Newton, design drafting technology professor at Niagara County Community College, received the Dr. Carol Jamieson Award at a ceremony held on the NCCC Sanborn campus on Dec. 9.

The Niagara County Community College advisory board of the V. James Renda Faculty Resource Center for Academic Excellence selected Newton as the eighth recipient of the Jamieson Award.

The award recognizes a faculty member who best exemplifies the outstanding traits Dr. Jamieson possessed: mentoring and support given to all faculty, continuous professional growth, the ability to inspire students, service to NCCC and commitment to academic excellence.

Newton, a faculty member at NCCC for 25 years, was nominated and selected based on her passion for teaching, engaging students in the learning process and enthusiastically motivating students to think independently. In addition to being a mentor to adjunct faculty, Newton continues to be active in her field of study, serving as an executive member at large of the New York State Engineering Technology Association, as well as a professional consultant for a variety of municipal and private companies in Western New York.
