The Lewiston Family Ice Rink welcomed each of its sponsors to a grand opening preview Friday, Nov. 29, to cut the ribbon and open another season of skating at Academy Park.

The Town of Lewiston Recreation Department reports a schedule of events and open skating hours will appear each week in The Lewiston-Porter Sentinel. Other information and registrations for special events can be found at http://www.lewportsports.com/, which will also post any weather-related closings.

Children 12 years old and under are now required to wear a helmet while skating. Skating helmets are available to rent in the warming tent for $1. All sizes of skates are also available to rent for $5, and hot chocolate, snacks and coffee are also for sale.

The Lewiston Family Ice Rink is also still seeking members of the community who wish to sponsor the rink to help keep open skating and special events free to the public. Any questions can be emailed to Town of Lewiston Parks and Recreation Director Mike Dashineau at [email protected].
