Lewiston Public Library September programs, events and activities

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of September.

Clubs and More

•The Lewiston Book Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 1:30 p.m. The book club meets the first Tuesday of the month. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 716-754-7714.

•The Lewiston Writers' Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library. For more information, visit www.lewistonwritersgroup.com.

•The library board of trustees will meet Monday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m., and the Friends of the Library, meets Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.

•The Dead Beats Society will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. for a special guided tour at Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Road, Niagara Falls.

•Beginner's genealogy class with Peggy Taylor-Hulligan will be offered on Tuesdays, Sept. 17 and 24; and Monday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. Registration is required.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required and knitters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information, contact Ellen Comerford at 716-754-4144.

Story Times

•Monday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. is registration day for all story times conducted at the Lewiston Public Library. For those interested in Alphabet Soup, Toddler Time, Lewiston Lapsit or Story Time with Mrs. Leardini, registration will be taking place for those ongoing activities.

•Alphabet Soup is a story time that introduces children to a different letter of the alphabet each week. Children are introduced to the letter through music, stories, crafts and simple American Sign Language. Sessions will be held on Mondays, Sept. 16, 23 and 30, at 10:30 a.m.

•Toddler Time, a story time for children ages 2 to 3 years old, uses music, finger play, stories and crafts to introduce toddlers to books, literacy awareness and build a love of words and language. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 17 and 24, at 10:30 a.m.

•Lewiston Lapsit, a time of music, finger play, rhymes and fun for babies ages birth to 24 months, helps to build an awareness and love of books. Sessions will be held on Wednesdays, Sept. 18 and 25, at 10 a.m.

•Story Time with Mrs. Leardini, a retired kindergarten teacher, is for children of all ages. Participants are encouraged to love books and reading through music, rhymes, stories and crafts. Sessions will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 19 and 26, at 10:30 a.m.

The Lewiston Public Library will resume Saturday hours on Sept. 21. Library hours are: Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The library will be closed, Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.
