Three candidates submitted petitions by Monday's deadline to run for the two open seats on the Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education.

According to District Clerk Robin Vertino, the candidates will be Lori Pittman of the Town of Niagara and Lorna Tilley-Peltier and Amy Deull, both of Wheatfield.

The seats currently held by Kathy Fleming and Pittman will be on the ballot this year.

Fleming, who has been on the board since 2007, will not seek re-election. Pittman, a former board member, was appointed to temporarily fill the seat of Michael Brock when he resigned.

The two candidates with the most votes will each receive three-year-terms ending June 30, 2016. The candidate filling the unexpired term will be installed immediately after the election. The second candidate will take office on July 1, Vertino said.

The school district's annual budget vote and school board election will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the Adult Learning Center of the Niagara-Wheatfield Senior High School, 2292 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn.
