Laura Brownlie is a liberal arts major. Gina DelGreco is mere months away from graduating with a degree in history.

So why were the two Niagara University seniors hosting a reception Wednesday evening for an art exhibit they curated?

The aspiring museum managers were the first students to enroll in courses offered through Niagara's new curriculum in art history with museum studies. Their exhibition, "Chromatic Dynamism: Color and Motion," will be on display through May 19 at the Castellani Art Museum.

"Giving us this huge opportunity is a wonderful professional experience that we can now say we've done as undergraduate students, which is absolutely amazing," exclaimed Brownlie.

During the reception, Dr. Nancy McGlen, dean of NU's College of Arts and Sciences, was presented with flowers in gratitude for her tireless work in establishing the new major.

"Without you, we wouldn't have this amazing program for students," DelGreco said.

"It's been a wonderful partnership all along," remarked a humble McGlen. "We have this wonderfully talented group of people who work at the museum, and who have collaborated not only in the creation of the program, but in producing with these wonderful students who are going to on to great success."

Technically, the art history with museum studies program doesn't commence until fall 2013, but professor Marian Granfield was eager to conduct a seminar-style course, which would allow her to gather input on what prospective students want to see in the curriculum.

She said Brownlie and DelGreco were the perfect test subjects, as two young women who have taken different paths to get where they are today. Granfield said she hopes that future students will have similar opportunities to curate exhibits because of the way Brownlie and DelGreco performed.

"What a wonderful way to jumpstart our new program," Granfield said. "I'm so very, very proud of them."
