New York State Parks officials were joined Monday by State Sen. George Maziarz, Assemblyman John Ceretto and contractors from Ferguson Electric and Wendel Duchscherer to commission electrical upgrades that were recently completed in Old Fort Niagara State Park.

The $1.875 million project, which was deemed consistent with the Niagara River Greenway Plan by the Niagara River Greenway Commission, was funded by the State Parks Standing Committee with monies derived from the New York Power Authority relicensing agreement. Improvements made at Old Fort Niagara include the replacement and upgrading of the existing primary and secondary electrical distribution system throughout the entire park.

Similar work was completed two years ago.

These upgrades will provide the park with a reliable and dependable electrical system, which will allow workers to more quickly troubleshoot any issues that may develop.

Watch video highlights of the press conference.
