The Lewiston Lions Club welcomed their newest member, Joanne Lorenzo, at its monthly dinner meeting at the Lewiston Village Pub. Lorenzo is the founder and director of The Magdalene Project, http://www.themagdaleneproject.net, located in Niagara Falls.

Guest speaker Lion Bob Schively, of the Town of Niagara Lions, spoke about the Lions See Program Inc., http://lionsSEE.org, which is located at the Ira Ross Eye Institute.

Since 2008, Lions from across the state have volunteered their time to screen children, whose numbers near 30,000, at day care centers, health fairs and Head Start programs.

The Lions were very busy this holiday season partnering with Family Video in Lewiston in distributing hams to those in need. In keeping with the Lions motto, "We serve," the club sponsored a family (with school-aged children) in which the breadwinner had recently lost his sight.

The Lions would like to thank George Optical for partnering with the club to give a much-needed pair of glasses to a child whose parent became unexpectedly disabled.

The Lewiston club also received official recognition from the New York National Guard for supporting military families during the 2011 Christmas season.

In moving on, the Lions Club is currently hosting a Valentine's Day drawing fundraiser and making plans for its first awards dinner.
