Students in Mr. Beatty's fourth-grade class at Tuscarora Indian School recently spent a day learning about the history of Lewiston.

In the morning, they hiked through Artpark with guides from Earth Spirit, where they learned about the history of the Niagara Gorge. After lunch, they enjoyed a Marble Orchard Historic Walking Tour, presented by the Lewiston Council on the Arts.

The kids have been reading "Freedom Crossing" by Margaret Goff Clark, so they were particularly excited to meet abolitionist Josiah Tryon (Timothy Henderson) and Sally Barton Tryon (Eva Nicklas) for a guided tour through the Historic District and the Lewiston Museum.

The day concluded with a visit to the Olde Time Barber Shop where they said "Hello" to Mayor Terry Collesano before heading down Center Street to see the Freedom Crossing monument.
