Vogt Family Foundation press release

The Vogt Family Foundation, a philanthropic leader in the Buffalo community, has announced a grant of $33,853 to support The Salvation Army’s Hope on Main emergency shelter project. This funding will be used to purchase much-needed kitchen equipment in the new, 80-bed family shelter.

Located on Main Street in Buffalo, The Salvation Army’s family shelter has been a lifeline for families for more than 60 years. This vital facility provides safe shelter, nutritious meals, and comprehensive support services while keeping all family members together.

“We are incredibly thankful to the Vogt Family Foundation for their thoughtful and strategic support,” said Maj. Annette Lock, director of The Salvation Army. “By matching funds for our kitchen equipment, they are helping us create a space where meals can be shared, nourishment is provided, and community is built every single day.”

“While you may see us as a foundation, we are primarily a family,” Katie Schneider said. “Our commitment to this community can be attributed to our parents, Peter and Mary Lou Vogt, and our kitchen table conversations, which centered around values. We understood the kitchen as the center of our home. In our family kitchen, we were nourished with food. We also did our homework here, we spoke of history, art, geography, the environment and people and their needs and differences and mostly their innate holiness. Our kitchen was full of love and laughter. We hope that all those things live on here at The Salvation Army kitchen.”

The Vogt Family Foundation Inc., based in Buffalo, supports initiatives in education, philanthropy and human services. It focuses on enhancing communities through charitable grants, with notable support in the Western New York region, including organizations.
