Community members can help nourish their fellow neighbors experiencing food insecurity through Tops Friendly Markets’ annual “Check Out Hunger” campaign. Now through Feb. 10, Tops customers may donate $2, $3, $5 or any amount at the register to support FeedMore WNY’s programs that alleviate food insecurity and joblessness.

“We are committed to helping battle food insecurity and couldn’t do it without the wonderful donations of food and funding we receive during our front-end campaigns like ‘Check Out Hunger’ and ‘Food 2 Families,’ Tops President Ron Ferri said. “We ask that, if you are able, please continue to help support your fellow neighbors in need next time you check out at Tops. Making a contribution to the ‘Check Out Hunger’ campaign is easy. When shopping at Tops, simply tell your cashier you’d like to help Tops ‘Check Out Hunger,’ and a donation of $2, $3 or $5 will help provide food for your local food bank. Every donation makes a difference.”

FeedMore WNY continues to rely on the cumulative “Check Out Hunger” campaigns from area retail partners as its largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds from “Check Out Hunger” enable FeedMore WNY to continue its critical services, including its home-delivered meal program for people who are homebound, FeedMore WNY’s free RISE workforce development program for individuals with high barriers to employment, and its food bank distribution network that provides nutritious food to nearly 400 pantries and other hunger-relief partners throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties.

In addition to Tops’ efforts, Price Rite Marketplace continues to run its “Check Out Hunger” campaign through Feb. 11.

Lisa Woodring, executive vice president of external affairs for FeedMore WNY, said, “Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive. Unfortunately, thousands of our Western New York neighbors experience food insecurity, including the nearly 200,000 individuals who rely on FeedMore WNY. Initiatives like ‘Check Out Hunger’ make it possible for FeedMore WNY to provide nutritious food to community members of all ages, helping to pave the way for better health and success. We are grateful to Tops Friendly Markets and Price Rite for helping us ‘Check Out Hunger,’ and we encourage Western New York shoppers to participate in this crucial campaign.”
