EPIC (Every Person Influences Children) has received $10,000 from M&T Charitable Foundation for its annual summer literacy program, “Storytime at Canalside.” This is the fifth year M&T Charitable Foundation has funded the program.

"We are so thankful to M&T for their agility and understanding during an uncertain time," Executive Director Tara N. Burgess said. "While ‘Storytime’ may look different than years past, EPIC is still committed to delivering this important literacy program. Supporting parents as they teach their children is more important now than ever."

Storytime is a family-based program that focuses on developing literacy skills and incorporating lessons into themed interactive experiences. Each week will feature a different theme, with local partners such as the Albright Knox Art Museum, Buffalo Science Museum, Buffalo Fire Department, Scott Celani Band, Balanced Body Foods and Jada Blitz Fitness all participating.

" ‘Storytime at Canalside’ is a wonderful way for our community to come together to support literacy and celebrate Western New York," said Jamie Rackl, EPIC's director of family engagement and professional development. "The generosity of M&T will allow us to offer a full-circle mix of literacy, art, STEM and more."

In years past, “Storytime” has been held on the Great Lawn of Canalside. This year, the program will shift to a virtual model. The story and complementary activities will still be live-streamed from Canalside on EPIC's Facebook page, as well as its YouTube channel.

“Storytime at Canalside” kicks off at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24. More information can be found on EPIC's website or by contacting Program Coordinator Alexis Hutsko.
