Catholic Health holds moment of silence & prayer to show commitment to peace & justice for all communities

On Friday, at precisely 2 p.m., associates, leadership and medical staff will gather outside Catholic Health ministries and be led by mission/site chaplains through an 8 minute and 46 second prayer service – the length of time George Floyd was restrained, ultimately causing his death. The ceremony was set to begin with participants kneeling for a moment of silence and follow with a prayer. Those who are unable to kneel were welcome to join and stand with others, together in unity.

The prayer services were set to be held at 16 locations throughout the Catholic Health system.

A press release said, “Since the tragic death of George Floyd, we have seen communities across the world come together to show support for people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds who are facing the challenges of injustice and violence. We, as Catholic Health, want to show our commitment to peace and justice for all community members.”

A Facebook post from Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston said, “Today, associates across Catholic Health gathered for a moment of prayer and reflection in memory of George Floyd and in support of BIPOC communities facing the challenges of injustice and violence. As a health care system dedicated to serving all those in need, we are committed to peace, justice, and social equality.

“Our MSM family spent today praying for justice and healing while reflecting on the difference we can all make in our community. Each department placed a flower in our Heroes Rock! Garden, symbolizing our hope for peace.”

Due so social gathering restrictions, media members were not allowed to participate.
