Mayor Arthur Pappas announced the following on Saturday:

Finally, we can celebrate the holiday weekend with the beautiful weather we have been craving. Since we are still under the “PAUSE” order of social distancing and wearing masks with no more than 10 in a group, residents need to be careful when picnicking with family. This is a time to be grateful for the blessings we are afforded by the sacrifices of our armed forces.

Memorial Day brings to mind our veterans who have passed away and those still living or even presently serving our country. A small group of patriots will be playing taps and firing the rifle in honor of those who served. So, do not be alarmed if you hear those sounds on Sunday.

Tennis courts are now open for use. At the golf course, carts are available for single use and credit cards are accepted. The libraries are allowed to open for curbside delivery, so keep informed as to the date that will resume.

Niagara County has PPE available for those businesses when they are ready to open. All businesses including those essential who have been operating must file for certification with the state to register that they are in compliance with the state guidelines. You cannot do this before the new phase is entered, however. Niagaracountybusiness.com has a list of financial resources available. Since we have entered phase one, if all goes well and our numbers do not spike, we might enter phase two in a couple of weeks.

The next bulk pickup is scheduled for the week of June 7. Please do not put trash out before that date.

The docks at Gateway are not available for use at this time for electrical or water and restrooms are closed.

Remember what the red, white and blue really stand for this holiday as you see the flag flying high. Our freedom depends on those who protect us every day. Hopefully, this crisis we have been enduring will be behind us and we can move forward with many pleasures for enjoyment in our city.
