When Water Street Landing closed in the late winter of 2019, some expected the Lewiston restaurant to close permanently.

In fact, the eatery is not only reopening next Thursday, but founder Jon DiBernardo said offerings will be expanded once brick-and-mortars are allowed to welcome back guests.

“I mean, we really were looking forward to a great summer, but now it's kind of a little bit special, because of really what it means to get everybody out of the house. We're going to look to doing some exciting things while things are still shut down,” he said.

Water Street Landing is a unique property in that it normally offers three distinct dining options – outside patio, inside social hall and elegant dining room – each with its own menu.

Initially, “We're going to be doing some specials that will allow us to kind of take care of people with more of a price point that we wouldn't normally offer,” DiBernardo said. “We might do some family-style packages, as well as a little bit of everything. But it's going to be a limited menu to begin.”

On that menu, “We're going to do a couple nice entrées – some steaks and salmon,” DiBernardo said. “People have been just raving about our grain bowls. They're very nutritious, extremely price-affordable. And they're healthy, too.

“And it's one of those things, you're never going to cook that at home. You're not going to sit there and go through prepping all the vegetables, sautéing, searing your protein, and coming up with a broth. Nobody's going to do that. These are the kinds of things that people say, ‘Oh, gosh, I’d take that all day long.’ We've been doing them at the Delaware (in Buffalo) and they've been flying out the door.

“But we'll also do our homemade pizza logs. We'll probably have a ‘taco Tuesday’ there. We're going to do a little bit of everything. We'll keep it fun.”

Dinner will be offered from 4-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday – but “That's going to change,” DiBernardo noted, as “New York State on PAUSE” restrictions are lessened or lifted. He said patrons “should be checking in with us almost every couple days, because I think you're going to see a lot of changes going real quick, being by the water.

“We know that we're essential – people need to enjoy that waterfront.”

Moreover, he said Water Street Landing is in a prime position to un-“PAUSE” “Because we might have one of the largest open-air seatings; we feel that we'll be doing more. We're going to have some people eating at a social distance before most other places can. We feel we have an inherent edge. You know, the thing that makes it a miserable place to run when it's raining out and cold is going to make it very attractive for people to get out of the house once we get the go ahead.”

And for those wondering what to do for dinner on Sunday, May 10, DiBernardo said, “We're going to be doing a lobster dinner to go for Mother's Day. So, it'll be dinner for two for $59. …

“We got to take care of the mothers out there.”

Water Street Landing patrons can call in an order to 754-9200, or text to 777-1617. The restaurant is located at 115 S. Water St.

DiBernardo said a new management team is in place, and “We're looking forward to an awesome summer.”
