The Niagara County Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County:

“We regret to report the passing of three Niagara County residents. We offer our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased.” This includes a:

  • 94-year-old male with underlying health conditions
  • 76-year-old male with underlying health conditions
  • 70-year-old male with underlying health conditions

The rest of the update is as follows:

  • 33 new positive cases, for a total of 359 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 163 in isolation (143 isolating at home, 20 in hospital isolation)
  • 175 recovered
  • 21 deaths
  • 1,635 people tested (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)

Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 116 people are in quarantine and 388 have completed quarantine.

In her weekday afternoon community update on LCTV, Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh said, “Again today we have a high number of new positive cases that are being reported – our highest yet. We have 33 new positive cases here in Niagara County today. Now, again, this number is not unexpected. We know that we have been doing more tests here in the area, over the last few days over this past week or so. So, we expected these numbers to rise as we were doing more tests.”

She added, “All of the evidence statewide is showing that New York is on the downward side of that curve, which is good news; but again, we continue to believe that here in Niagara County we are trailing … slightly behind in that timeframe. We are behind, as far as where we're at in that point. And that's evidenced, of course, by the last two days, where we've shown our two biggest rises and positive numbers of cases here in Niagara County.”

Erie County

Erie County cases, meanwhile, are up to 2,738. Of that number, Grand Island has 40 and the City of Buffalo 1,095 confirmed cases.

The county "heat map" says 11,742 people have been tested, and 198 people have died from the coronavirus.
