The Kidney Foundation of Western New York is better able to meet the needs of local patients, thanks to a grant from the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Benefit Fund. The $10,000 grant will be used to provide nutritional supplements, transportation assistance and medical identification jewelry to kidney patients with a demonstrated financial need.

“This generous grant will directly help some of our area’s most vulnerable patients,” said Kidney Foundation Director Jeremy Morlock.

“On behalf of our board of directors, grants committee and our membership, we are excited and gratified to provide patient support and service to those in need and care of kidney disease,” said Eugene L. Urban, executive director, Odd Fellow & Rebekah Benefit Fund. “We realize the importance of the prevention, treatment, education and awareness of kidney disease and have made it a priority in our attempt to provide financial support.”

Renal nutritional supplements can help to prevent or treat nutritional deficits for people with impaired kidney function. The transportation assistance program allows dialysis and transplant patients to travel to and from medical appointments and treatment centers, which can be critically important for those who need dialysis. Medical identification jewelry can provide critical information in the event of a medical emergency. The Kidney Foundation accepts requests for services through patients’ social workers.

The Kidney Foundation of Western New York is based in Buffalo. Its other patient services include informational resources, peer-to-peer counseling, support groups and advocacy programs. Information is available by visiting www.kfwny.org or calling 716-529-4390.
