Grand Island Chamber of Commerce: Nominations sought for Citizen of the Year

Sat, Feb 8th 2020 07:05 am

The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce is looking for nominations for the 54th annual Citizen of the Year Award celebration. You can pick up your nomination form(s) at the Grand Island Chamber office or go to www.gichamber.org and download one. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 6. They will be recognized at a dinner to be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Niagara Falls, on April 30.

“We are pleased to announce that this years master of ceremonies will be Dave Greber,” the chamber announced.

Greber joined the News 4 team in March 2015 as a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor.

Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Greber began his journalism career as the news editor of the former High Street Journal, a weekly college newspaper at his alma mater Miami University in Ohio, where he graduated with a major in journalism and a minor in black world studies.

Greber believes good journalists seek the truth and are capable of reporting the who, what, when, where, why and how. The best, however, encapsulate something more, something that wins over pessimism and monotony every time. “The best have passion,” the chamber said. “Since the beginning of his career, Greber has been passionate about providing journalism that goes the extra step for the people and communities he covers.”

Greber continued his print career in southwest Ohio, covering several communities as a news, business and education reporter. In 2005, he was named Weekly Journalist of the Year in a nationwide competition, sponsored by Suburban Newspapers of America, an organization that would later play an important role in his career.

Having won and been nominated for several statewide awards for coverage of some of southwest Ohio’s biggest events, Greber was tapped as a multimedia journalist in 2007, trading in the pen and paper for still and video cameras. He spent the next year perfecting his craft behind the lens, traveling to Pasadena, California; Williamsport, Pennsylvania; Sarasota, Florida, and several other places covering local angles on a national scale.

In 2008, with the guidance of his former editor, Greber won a national multimedia competition sponsored by SNA and Poynter to study new media in Scandinavia.

Greber began his foray into television as the on-air personality in a media partnership that existed between his former employer, Cox Ohio Publishing, and the Cincinnati CBS affiliate, WKRC.

Prior to WIVB/WNLO, Greber spent four years as the evening anchor at WBNG-TV in Binghamton, anchoring the 5, 5:30, 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

In January 2018, Greber was promoted to the anchor desk at WIVB. He anchors the 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. broadcasts, and in September 2018 to News 4 “WakeUP!”

He is married to his college sweetheart, Sarah. They have two daughters.
