Everyone could all use a little kindness in their life, right? If you answered, “Yes,” and you are an older adult in Niagara County, HANCI has a free movie day for you. Best of all? The film celebrates the goodness of one of America’s best neighbors!

HANCI's Council for Older Adults in Niagara County (COA) and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) have collaborated with Niagara University's Communication Studies Department to present a free screening of the movie, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.

HANCI’s movie day is taking place at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in Dunleavy Hall, Room 127, on the NU campus. The movie is free, but registration is required to attend. Call 716-285-8224, ext. 215, or email [email protected] to reserve a seat. PS: Wear your favorite red cardigan for a chance to win a prize.

As an added added bonus, Kimberly LaRussa, director of Sweet Buffalo and Sweet Buffalo Rocks, will be on hand to spread some real-life kindness. She will share the story of Sweet Buffalo Rocks, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to bring smiles to children in need.

The Council for Older Adults is made up of representatives from various senior clubs and groups and individual members from across Niagara County. The COA offers many activities to help older adults remain active, healthy and independent. It is funded by the Niagara County Office for the Aging, and is one of many programs offered by HANCI.
