Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart veterans by adding their name to county’s Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held this August.

Jastrzemski was joined by Timothy Beach, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran and the recipient of two Purple Heart awards, in announcing the county’s continuing effort to recognize all of its citizens wounded in battle.

“Niagara County received the distinction as an official Purple Heart County because we are committed to the preserving the legacy of brave military personnel like Tim Beach who were wounded fighting for our country,” Jastrzemski said. “We are already aware of some additional Purple Heart veterans who were not included last year, and we want to do all we can to ensure every single one is recognized in our Book of Honor.”

“I appreciate Niagara County’s efforts in becoming a Purple Heart County and recognize the bravery of our military members,” said Beach, a retired businessman, and active community volunteer who continues to serve as a mentor in Judge Sara Sheldon's Veterans Court. “For families of a Purple Heart veteran who may have passed, the Book of Honor ensure future generations will know of your loved one’s contribution.

Jastrzemski said there is a short application that must be filled out that can be obtained at www.niagaracounty.com/Departments/County-Clerk. Those with questions can call the clerk’s office at 716-439-7022 or the Veteran’s Service Agency at 716-438-4090.

More information on the August event will be made available later this year.
