Applicants sought for Merrell Lane Memorial Aviation Scholarship

The Merrell Lane Memorial Aviation Scholarship was established in memory of Merrell Lane, co-founder and the first chairman of the Niagara Military Affairs Council (NIMAC). Each year, NIMAC awards a $1,500 scholarship to a well-deserving enlisted member assigned to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station who has shown an interest in the aviation field.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

•Age 18-35

•Enlisted member currently assigned to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Member is enrolled in an accredited private pilot licensing program or enrolled in an aviation-related curriculum at an accredited college/university.

To apply, mail an application (available a www.nimac.org) along with the following:

1. Essay between 250-300 words on the subject “Why I Have an Interest in Aviation.” Include in this essay future plans as they relate to aviation.

2. If applying based upon enrollment at an accredited college/university, enclose a copy of the latest college transcript or proof of acceptance into an aviation-related education program.

3. If applying based upon enrollment in an accredited private pilot licensing program, include a letter of recommendation from a flight instructor or flight school official.

Email a completed application and attachments to [email protected] or mail the application and attachments to: Niagara Military Affairs Council, Merrell Lane Memorial Aviation Scholarship, P.O. Box 231, Niagara Falls, NY.

Application must be postmarked no later than May 4. Applicants will be notified of decision by May 18, and will be receive their award at the NIMAC annual meeting in June.
