The 22nd annual “Kidz ‘N’ Kites” celebration promises to be a winner when it takes flight Saturday, Sept. 14, in Veterans Memorial Park, 7000 Lockport Road.

Returning families and newcomers will find plenty to sing about when they participate in the fun-filled events scheduled to from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clowns, jugglers, music, animals, prize drawings, and of course, kites are just part of the festivities they will find when they arrive.

“We anticipate about 1,000 kids,” said Benjamin Bunker, director for the Youth Bureau of Niagara County and lead coordinator of the event. “The first 1,000 kids get a free T-shirt, a kite and a hotdog lunch. Also each kid will get an envelope of gift certificates from nearby restaurants like Mighty Taco and the Texas Roadhouse.”

Parents and children will be treated to the national anthem sung by Nick Zawicki and an afternoon of music from D.J. the Deejay.

“It’s a gorgeous park! We’re so lucky to have it. It’s a great space and we have the entire park,” Bunker said.

Another great treat at the event is a chance to see the Great Lakes KiteFliers Society of WNY in action with their 30-foot kite.

“I was just looking at (photos) of them on Facebook and they’re amazing,” Bunker said. “They’ve been here since the beginning, as well.”

Thirty small prizes including sports’ memorabilia and gift certificates, as well as five or six grand prizes will be raffled off.

The event would not be possible without the continued support of the Niagara County Department of Social Services, the County Youth Bureau, Niagara County Sheriff’s office, Niagara PAL, the Town of Niagara, and M&T Bank, organizers said.

Other sponsors include WKBW-TV/DT, the Jonathan “J-Mill” Miller Memorial Giving Fund, Berkshire Farms, Grigg-Lewis Foundation, Fidelis Care, Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, I.B.E.W. Local 237, Niagara’s Choice Federal Credit Union, Candlelight Cabinetry, Reid’s Drive-In, Mighty Taco, Wegmans, and Modern Disposal.
