Liberty Drive cleanup a success

Thu, May 9th 2019 02:05 pm

On Saturday, Cub Scout Packs 833 (Adams Fire) and 824 (Sanborn Fire) participated in the 28th Liberty Drive cleanup in Wheatfield.

Scouts, parents and leaders spent the day cleaning up Liberty Drive. Precious Plate, a business on Liberty Drive, supplied Scouts with gloves, bags, grabbers and donuts to help them through the day. In addition, Frontier Fire supplied beverages and rest rooms; the Niagara County Sewer District supplied a dumpster for the trash; and the Wheatfield Highway Department supplied a dump truck.

Precious Plate will also supply the Packs 833 and 824 with a pizza party and donations as an incentive for continuing the cleanup through 28 years.

At Monday’s Wheatfield Town Board meeting, Councilman Larry Helwig said, “It was quite successful. We had probably over 35 people there – probably the largest turnout there ever. Precious Plate … anted up some money this year. … I think this little cash incentive is going to keep our Scouts willing to pick up trash for years to come.”

In a separate email, he added, “It was great to have a business on Liberty Drive take an active role in providing the necessary supplies for this cleanup.”

The following Scouts, parents and leaders were: Christopher and Chris Perna; Scott Banks; Tim and Jack Rider; Jesse Gooch; Brooke Cramer; Christopher and Noah Butera; Calab and Luca Zachar; Chris and Andy Pappal; Jaden and Alvin Baines; Vinny Gunnantono; Jude and Kevin McDermott; and Grant, Charles and Maggie Scime.
