On Thursday, Niagara County Community College hosted the first of three public forums to introduce its presidential candidates. The forum also gave attendees the chance to ask the candidate presenting several questions they may have regarding the college.

Dr. Stephen Dunnivant was the first candidate to present to the NCCC community.

Dunnivant is dean of business, industry, and technology at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee. He previously served as associate dean of program development and executive director of Millaway Institute for Entrepreneurship at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City. Dunnivant earned a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction at the University of West Florida in Pensacola; a Master of Arts in education and human development from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary social science from Florida State University in Tallahassee; and an Associate of Arts in college studies from Gulf Coast Community College.

During his opening remarks, Dunnivant referenced his background as a young child, as well as his excitement working in the scholastic field.

As a – you can call it – motto toward his presidential campaign, Dunnivant kept referencing the phrase “Find your thunder.”

To close, Dunnivant said, “For better or for worse, I assure you, I will be transparent. … My (strength) is the focus of the quality of life as an extension of economic development in relevance of those programs to the students that results in getting a job. And it’s one they should have an attachment to. … One of the cool things about going to college is you should be able to explore something. It only takes one really excited professor and suddenly you scratch your head and go, ‘I never thought about going down that road,’ and you wind up doing something the rest of your life. … I really do want to help you find your thunder, not just the students, but the people that live here.”

Following the remarks, attendees filled out a survey, which judged several categories of the presentation.

The NCCC presidential public forums continue at 2:15 p.m. Monday in the main cafeteria on the second floor of the G building. Dr. Lori V. Quigley will present Monday, and Dr. Darrin Q. Rankin will be on campus Tuesday at the same time and location.
