Pop-up boutique aims to provide affordable clothing to families in need at The Hope Center in NT

Lumber City Church is inviting local families to a unique and personal shopping experience at The Hope Center. Their goal is to serve families living below the poverty line who struggle to attain adequate clothing and apparel for themselves and their children. They will be given an opportunity to shop in a dignified way from hundreds of brand-new and never used items at prices one can afford. 

“Through the Box of Hope outreach, we have connected with dozens of families in North Tonawanda who live at or below the poverty line. Almost every family we’ve talked to has said that clothing is their biggest need. While there are government and community programs that can help with food and housing, there are few options when it comes to clothing. We decided to address this need with the Lumber City Outfitters sale,” John Paul McLaughlin, one of the pastors at Lumber City Church, said. “We also want to partner with existing organizations and connect families to services they may not be aware of.”

At the May 4 sale, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County will offer a cooking class at the Hope Center. The class aims to teach families how to make nutritious, affordable meals from just three ingredients. Participants will go home with their own electric skillet and all the ingredients needed to recreate the meal. The class is free, but space is limited.
