Warm weather has finally arrived in Lewiston and with it the Lewiston Family Spring Fling. This event is a way to celebrate winter’s end, and the chance to renew old friendships and make new ones.

The 24th annual Spring Fling is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Fourth St. (corner of Onondaga Street). It is sponsored by the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department.

The Spring Fling committee has kept all of the favorite activities from past years, and brought in several new ones for 2019.

The day will begin with a Lewiston Kiwanis Club and Lewiston Service Guild 1-mile run for youth ages 14 and under. Registration will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Onondaga end of the Red Brick. The race will start at 12:30 p.m. and is all on flat ground. There is no fee to participate.

One can also pre-register for the race online at www.villageoflewiston.net. Race shirts will be provided courtesy of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club and Lewiston Service Guild, and given to the first 100 youth registering. Each participant must fill out an application form. A parent’s signature is necessary. Parents can run the course with the younger runners. Awards will be given out in age categories.

Starting at 1 p.m., there will be a street art contest for all school ages. The theme for this year is “Animals.” Chalk will be provided. The competition will be judged at approximately 3 p.m.

A basket auction will run from 1-3:30 p.m. with a wide selection of prizes – including tickets for jet boat rides, Artpark shows, the Maid of the Mist, Old Fort Niagara, local college athletics and the Castellani Art Museum, plus a variety of prizes for children and adults.

Activities at the event include a petting zoo, Putt-Putt golf, face-painting, balloon sculptures as well as Bounce-n-Around bounce house. Along with the Spring Fling activities, hot dogs and drinks will be provided at no charge.

This event is held rain or shine, and is open to residents and non-residents. For more information, call 716-754-1990 or email [email protected].
