On April 13, Niagara-Wheatfield ADK held its annual Fashion Show. The fashions, modeled by ADK members, were provided by Talbots of the Fashion Outlets Mall. Proceeds from the event go to the annual scholarship for a Niagara-Wheatfield student.  This year, the scholarship was won by Olivia Gonyea.

Gonyea plans to attend Fordham University to major in humanitarian studies/global health with a minor in Spanish.

Gonyea is a superb student and has already begun her altruistic work.

She was diagnosed with cancer at a young age, but attained remission after a stay at Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

Impressed by the generosity of others while she was there, Gonyea decided to do her own giving.  She started to fundraise when she was in third grade, then she took the donations to Build A Bear and made as many bears as she could. Gonyea then brought the bears to the same hospital she attended just before Christmas.

To this day, she continues to fundraise and donate bears annually. She has a goal of 80 bears this year. ADK provided her with a donation for her project, along with her scholarship.

The group said Gonyea encompasses the altruistic spirit of ADK and extended congratulations as the 2019 ADK Scholarship winner.
