2019 National Girl Scout Week & Girl Scouts' 107th birthday

National Girl Scout Week Sunday, March 10, to Saturday, March 16, is a time to celebrate Girl Scouts as groundbreakers, big thinkers and role models. March 12 marks Girl Scouts’ birthday and, at 107 years strong, Girl Scouts continues to offer the best year-round all-girl, girl-led leadership development experience for girls in the world.

Juliette Gordon Low founded the first Girl Scout troop with just 18 girls. Over 100 years later, more than 50 million women are Girl Scout alums. Girl Scouts help to power the leadership pipelines across multiple industries and sectors. The proof is in the results with Girl Scouts’ proud history of inclusion and girl safety, and legacy of women leaders (including 70 percent of today’s women senators, 100 percent of women secretaries of states, 80 percent of female tech leaders, and 90 percent of female astronauts who have flown in space) were all Girl Scouts.

This year in conjunction with Girl Scout Week is the “Girl Scouting Year-Round – Virtual Join Event,” Monday, March 11, to Friday, March 15, on Girl Scouts of Western New York’s social media, with daily virtual trivia and Facebook Live events. During this virtual campaign, new girls and adult volunteers who join will have a chance to win special prizes such as Girl Scout cookies, department store gift cards, a Girl Scout starter kit, and a free week of Girl Scout Camp.

Throughout Girl Scout week, girls are encouraged to partake in activities that reflect how a G.I.R.L. (go-getter, innovator, risk-taker, leader) can take the lead in Girl Scouts with activities like wear your Girl Scout uniform to worship and school, set a goal and learn a new skill, solve a problem in a creative way, and more.
