Kearns to host 'Clerk on the Go' outreach

Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns, in cooperation with Lackawanna City Clerk Jeffrey P. DePasquale, will hold a “Clerk on the Go” outreach from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Lackawanna City Hall, 714 Ridge Road. This multiple-service community event will bring Erie County clerk services directly to Lackawanna residents.

The outreach will feature:

•Ready Center For Real ID & Enhanced Driver License: These ready centers will help prepare anyone needing to obtain a Real ID or an enhanced driver’s license before the federal deadline of October 2020. Erie County Auto Bureau staff will be on hand to assist residents prepare for their auto bureau visit by providing them accurate information on exactly what license or non-driver ID is right for them, and to ensure customers have the proper documents needed to apply for their license. This event is free of charge.

The goal of the clerk’s initiative is to educate and effectively prepare auto bureau patrons in order to make processing enhanced and Real IDs more efficient and to help reduce wait times at the auto bureaus. Staff will also help customers with scheduling an online reservation at a date and time most convenient for them to visit an auto bureau and submit their documents. The ready centers are designed to prepare, not process, and to ensure customers have all the right documents when they come to an auto bureau.

•“Thank A Vet” Discount Program: Interested veterans can bring their original discharge papers to the outreach and staff will be on hand to file their paperwork with the Erie County clerk’s office. After the event, staff will issue and mail applicants a “Thank A Vet” photo ID card.

•Passport Application Processing: Residents looking to process their passport application will be able to do so at this one-stop passport service. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the county clerk’s office at 716-858-8785. Applicants will be able to apply for a passport card, passport book or both. Payments must be in the form of check or money order. No cash or credit cards will be accepted. For more information, visit www.erie.gov/passports.

•Pistol Permit Applications: Erie County pistol permit applications are extensive and have multiple required parts that must be completed in order to be processed. Residents looking to apply for a pistol permit can obtain an application at this outreach, or have their application reviewed by staff before submitting it downtown.

Pistol permit applications can only be submitted at the downtown Pistol Permit Office, 92 Franklin St., Buffalo. A reservation is required and can be made at www.erie.gov/clerk under the pistol permit section.

“In order to better serve Erie County residents, I am bringing multiple clerk services on the go,” Kearns said. “My staff will be on hand with information on all services of the clerk’s office as well as Real ID information from the auto bureaus.”

City Clerk Jeffrey P. DePasquale said, “Since becoming city clerk, I have not only been seeking ways to improve efficiency in the city clerk’s office, but to also add additional services that benefit our residents. I am proud to say that we have teamed up with the Erie County clerk’s office to make these additional services available to our residents through the ‘DMV on the Go’ program. Hopefully our residents will take advantage of these added services and save themselves a trip to Buffalo or other surrounding communities.”
