Hibbard announces for Porter town clerk

Kara M. Hibbard, acting town clerk for the Town of Porter, has announced her candidacy for the position of Porter town clerk. She was appointed town clerk by the Porter Town Board in September 2018, following the retirement of Barbara DuBell. Hibbard is running for a four-year term.

Hibbard, a member of the Town of Porter Republican Party, has served the residents of the Town of Porter as deputy town clerk since 2014. Her duties in that role have been varied and comprise overall Town Hall operations. Included are serving as recording secretary for all town meetings and as records management officer for the town; serving as a licensing officer covering issuance of sporting licenses, marriage licenses, bingo licenses, games of chance licenses and handicapped parking permits, as well as issuing birth and death certificates.

Other responsibilities include creating, attending and transposing minutes for monthly Town Board meetings; managing the Town of Porter website (www.townofporter.net), including the posting of town news and announcements; processing resident’s payments for town water and sewer bills; serving as an official E-ZPass outlet and handling the processing of applications; issuing dog licenses, sporting licenses, monthly decal reports and handling the processing of state hunting and fishing licenses; and serving the needs of Porter residents.

Prior to her joining the town as deputy town clerk, Hibbard worked in accounts payable with Nuttall Gear for eight years. She holds an associates degree in business administration from Niagara County Community College and is a certified notary public.

A 25-year resident of the town, she is married to Marshall Hibbard and has two daughters: Hailey, 23, and Sydney, 16. Hailey is a recent graduate of Potsdam University while Sydney attends Lewiston-Porter. Hibbard and her husband are members of the Fish, Feather and Fur Conservation Club in Youngstown.

“I really want to serve the community, to the best of my ability – that’s my main focus: taking care of the people of this community,” Hibbard said. “I have gained a lot of experience over the past five years. I feel that I’ve made it better so far, and I’m going to continue to make it better for the people of this town.”

She pledged to greater serve the people of the community.

“I love the people,” Hibbard said. “Any questions they have I want to be able to answer. If I don’t know the answer, I want to be able to get it for them. I want to see the residents taken care of and supported.”
