Ever wondered about the origins of the historic log cabins in this area? The Niagara History Center is hosting a program that will answer those questions.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, Terry Abrams, curator at the Niagara County Historical Society, will discuss the cultural and historical significance of these log structures, and the data found through an analysis of the trees used to build the cabins. These cabins are currently located at the Rochester Museum & Science Center and the New York State Museum.

The research that is currently being conducted by the Tonawanda Reservation Historical Society, in conjunction with Cornell University’s Tree Ring Lab, will also be discussed. The research looks at historical log cabins from the Tonawanda Reservation. Several of these cabins still exist on the reservation, and there are four in museum collections today.

This event will take place at 215 Niagara St., Lockport. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call the History Center at 716-434-7433.
