On Wednesday, New York State Sen. Rob Ortt awarded $35,000 in state education funding to five local Niagara County libraries. Representatives from the Niagara Falls Public Library, the Lewiston Public Library, the Ransomville Free Library and the Youngstown Free Library joined the hosts, Sanborn-Pekin Free Library.
Some of the programs and projects that will be created with this funding include the upgrading of technology equipment, the creation of educational programs for those with special needs, the preservation of historical local documents and the creation of a publicly available workspace for those in need of a private work area.
"These days, our libraries are responsible for much more than just providing literature to local constituents," Ortt said. "They have become places where residents can conduct research or meetings. They also provide special programs for the children in our community and are even tasked with preserving local historical documents. Because of the multitude of services our libraries provide, it is important that we continue to fund them, and enable them to serve our community in innovative ways."
