Niagara Falls residents Marlies Borzynski and the Wilson family were honored Sunday as Volunteers of the Year at the Gliding Stars "Victory Luncheon" held at The Lily of the Valley Banquet Hall in Cheektowaga.
Marlies has been skating with Gliding Stars at Hyde Park for six seasons. She began volunteering a couple of years after her son, Noah, joined the program as a star. Marlies was described as "an incredibly positive person. She brings her warm smile, sense of humor and encouragement to the intermediate group every Sunday."
The Wilson family joined Gliding Stars program five years ago when daughter, Hailey, began skating as a star with her dad, Jeff, and older sister, Hannah, as her volunteers. Three seasons ago, the youngest sister, Briana, started skating, too. Jeff has been teaching the beginners group at Hyde Park program on Monday nights.
Gliding Stars is a nonprofit organization that provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to increase their personal potential through development of learning ice skating skills in a regular program of instruction and practice in their own local community.
