National Girl Scout Week is March 11-17. It is a time to celebrate the power of what it means to be a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) who changes the world!
At 106 years strong, Girl Scouts continues to offer the pre-eminent all-girl, girl-led leadership development experience for girls in the world.
Girl Scouts of Western New York invites the entire WNY community to celebrate this special week in their own way.
During Girl Scout Week each day has a theme:
Sunday, March 11 - Celebrate as the week begins or concludes with
Girl Scout Sunday, Girl Scout Sabbath, Girl Scout Jum'ah, or Girl Scout Shabbat as girls have an opportunity to attend their place of worship and be recognized as a Girl Scout. Girls will wear their Girl Scout uniform to their place of worship during this time. Girls can also reconnect with the
Girl Scout Promise and Law. Learn more about
Girl Scout history and our founder,
Juliette Gordon Low.
Monday, March 12 - Celebrate Girl Scouts' 106
th Birthday and be a go-getter and take action! Girls might launch a community service project or work toward a
Girl Scout award.
Tuesday, March 13 - Be an innovator and explore science, technology, engineering, and/or math (
STEM)! Girls can create a fun project through
Made with Code, meeting challenges head on and exploring new solutions.
Wednesday, March 14 - Be a smart risk-taker and step out of your comfort zone! Girls can get outside to explore and take action to protect the environment, try a new
outdoor activity with family or friends and sign up for Girl Scout
summer camp or plan a different
adventure. It could take place close to home, or around the world!
Thursday, March 15 - Be a leader and show people you care! Girls can commit "random acts of kindness" all day long, be a
good friend, volunteer, or donate to charity.
Friday, March 16 - Get involved civically! Girls can connect with their local political or school officials and leaders. They can also, learn about Girl Scouts'
legislative agenda and work toward earning their
Global Action award.
Saturday, March 17 - Observe Girl Scout Sabbath: the perfect time to honor one's faith. Attend a religious service. Girls can think about earning their
My Promise, My Faith pin and can also learn more about faiths different from their own.
Girls can celebrate National Girl Scout Week in many ways. Girls and volunteers will also share photos on social media,
Facebook,
Twitter and
Instagram, about how they are celebrating using the hashtag #GirlScoutWeek.
National Girl Scout Week is also a great time to join Girl Scouts. Rolling membership registration is open to girls in grades k-12 and adults age 18 and older who are interested in volunteering. To register to become a girl member or adult volunteer at Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY), visit
www.gswny.org or call 1.888.837.6410.
The community can also celebrate Girl Scout Week with the "Balloon Pop Challenge" at GSWNY Shops. Each customer has a chance to save 10 percent to 50 percent off on their purchase as they shop and pop a balloon to receive a discount on a same-day purchase. Each shop is open their normal hours of business for the week. This offer cannot be combined with any other coupon or discount. The "Balloon Pop Challenge" runs March 12-16.
