Niagara County Dept. of Health offers free evidence-based workshops

The Niagara County Department of Health nursing division, in collaboration with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering free workshops throughout Niagara County for individuals with any ongoing health condition; for example, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, pain and high blood pressure.
There is also a workshop designed for individuals who are at risk for developing diabetes.

•Chronic disease self-management program (CDSMP): This six-week workshop helps participants learn or enhance their skills and ability to manage their health and maintain an active lifestyle. Caregivers are also welcome.
Workshops are scheduled to begin on: Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 (1-3:30 p.m.), at the Dale Association, 33 Ontario St., Lockport; and Friday, Feb. 16 (9-11:30 a.m.), at the Elks Lodge, 6791 North Canal Road, Lockport.
•Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP): This 16-week workshop has been proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Individuals learn skills to make lasting lifestyle changes, including healthy eating, adding physical activity to their lives, how to manage stress and how to stay motivated.
Workshops are scheduled to begin on Friday, Jan. 5 (2-3 p.m.), at the North Tonawanda Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive; Wednesday, Jan. 10 (6-7 p.m.), at the American Legion, 8643 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls; and Tuesday, March 13 (9-10 a.m.), at Eastern Niagara Hospital, 521 East Ave., Lockport.
•Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP): This six-week workshop helps participants learn or improve problem-solving and decision-making skills, enabling them to confront the challenges of living with diabetes. Caregivers are also welcome.
Workshops are scheduled to begin on Friday, Jan. 5 (1-3:30 p.m.), at Trott Access Center, 1001 11th St., Niagara Falls; Wednesday, Jan. 10 (9-11:30 a.m.), at Eastern Niagara Hospital, 521 East Ave., Lockport; and Friday, May 4 (9-11:30 a.m.), at the Elks Lodge, 6791 North Canal Road, Lockport.
