From Oct. 2-5, the North Tonawanda Common Council, spearheaded by Aldermen-at-Large Jeff Glatz and Bob Pecoraro, along with partnership from North Tonawanda High School, led by Katie Harrington, and Unyts Account Executive Greg Eastmer, are promoting a North Tonawanda "Roll Up Your Sleeves" Challenge to all the residents of North Tonawanda to accomplish two things, blood donations, and a member donor registry.
These individuals understand the needs of the community and what a blood or organ donation can do to save or improve a life and desire all residents to support this challenge. Unyts is Western New York's only organ, eye, tissue and community blood center. Their commitment is to save and enhance lives through organ, eye, tissue and blood donations, while maintaining respect for those who give the gift of life.
During this challenge, two points will be registered for every blood donation and two points will also go toward the ward for every donor registry. If a resident completes, both, the blood donation and donor registry, five total points will go toward their ward (if one is has already completed a donor registry, they will be given this credit). To complete the mission visit the UNYTS Tonawanda Neighborhood Blood Donation Center, 96 Niagara St., Tonawanda, on Oct. 2, 3 or 5, or visit the North Tonawanda High School Alumni Center on Meadow Drive, Oct. 3, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Reservations are highly encouraged.
After the event is over, the aldermen will announce the North Tonawanda Ward winner at the next Common Council meeting set for Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The winning ward will be designated as the 2017 "Roll Up Your Sleeves" Champion and recognized that they have personally made a difference in many lives.
