The University at Buffalo Center for the Arts will present Lehrer Dance at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the Mainstage Theatre, located at the Center for the Arts, North Campus. The performance is sponsored by M&T Bank.
For the sixth year in a row, Lehrer Dance kicks off the M&T Bank Dance Series with a stunning concert showcasing the company's internationally renowned blend of artistry and athleticism. Last year's triumphant 10th anniversary season included another sold-out home performance, national and international touring, plus groundbreaking collaborations with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Burchfield Penney Arts Center, Buffalo Chamber Players and the Albright Knox Art Gallery.
The program will feature two world premieres and audience favorites from the company's diverse and critically acclaimed repertoire. World premieres will include: "Rhapsody," a fun, full company piece that brings the classic jazz dance vernacular to new heights with a jazz soundtrack. A second premiere is the visually striking and emotional "Sirenic" featuring the women of Lehrer Dance and set to the poetic and sonically charged music of Ukrainian folk-punk group "DakhaBrakha."
The evening will also feature a mix of solo, trio and company works, including: "Murmur" (2012); "Pulp" (2016); "Troika" (2016); "Taken" (2011); and the epic "Pantheon Rising," (2013) with original music by Buffalo native Damien Simon.
Tickets are available at the UB Center for the Arts Box Office (noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday), and online at www.ticketfly.com. For more information, call 716-645-2787 or visit www.ubcfa.org or www.lehrerdance.org.
