Obituary: Dorothy Ann Carter

Former Grand Island resident Dorothy Ann (Schum) Carter passed July 24, 2017.
Dorothy and her late husband, Charles, were longtime residents of Grand Island before retiring to Florida to be near children and grandchildren. Charles was employed at Western Electric for 28 years and together they owned Ceil & Chuck's Restaurant on River Road. At a Kaegebein Elementary celebration, Dorothy received an award for having the most children complete their elementary education at the school (all 10, followed by 10 graduates of Grand Island High School). Dorothy was an active supporter of St. Stephen R.C. Church and has been honored for thousands of volunteer hours at hospitals in both New York and Florida.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles M. Carter; mother of Thomas C. Carter, James R. Carter, the late Robert A. Carter, Mary Ann (Carter) Lunde, Patricia A. (Carter) Woodham, Raymond A. Carter, Donald J. Carter, Charles M. Carter, Kenneth G. Carter, and Paul E. Carter; beloved grandmother of Heather Carter Torres, Kristen Carter, Jimmy Carter, Suzanne Carter, Kadey (Carter) Essick, Lise Engebretsen, Trine Engebretsen-Labbe, Jennifer (Carter) Quill, Jessica (Carter) Petrie, Julianne Carter, Jaime Carter, Sean Picquet, Dustin Schuss, Jaimie Wilson, Grant Carter, Alec Carter, Christopher Carter, Brittany Carter, Kyle Carter, Julia Fleming, Victoria Fleming, Kenneth Carter, Natalie Carter, Charles Carter and Maicah Roxas; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 5300 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, Florida, on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at 11 a.m.
