Niagara Hospice is warning potential donors to closely check any mailed solicitations they receive asking for money to support hospice care locally.

The organization stated another organization, known as the Hospice Support Fund out of Merrifield, Virginia, has been seeking donations by mail in Niagara County. Patricia Degan, director of marketing, public relations and volunteer services for Niagara Hospice, said those donations do not support Niagara Hospice.

Degan said anything from Niagara Hospice will include the organization's name, logo and local contact information. Niagara Hospice most recently sent out appeal letters requesting donations for Niagara Hospice House in honor of the 10th anniversary of opening the doors to residential and in-patient hospice services.

Anyone wishing to donate to a specific hospice organization should look up the address, website or call the organization directly to find out where to send money. Donors to Niagara Hospice can mail donations to 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.

For more information, call Niagara Hospice at 716-439-4417 or visit www.NiagaraHospice.org.
