Wild Kritters to hold 11th annual basket raffle

Thu, Apr 13th 2017 05:10 pm

Western New York has a fair share of wildlife, and a plethora of animal lovers. When these people find sick or injured animals, they often wonder what to do or who to call.

Wild Kritters of Niagara County has been tending to wounded mammals, birds and reptiles for more than a decade. The organization is licensed by New York State and U.S. Fish and Wildlife to rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife. Its goal is to get the animals back into the wild, healthy, as soon as possible.

It's a labor of love - and one that's not cheap.

Wild Kritters is not funded by anyone, and all expenses are paid out of pocket. Mammals require bottle-feeding and longer care, while birds have expensive veterinary bills and require pricey food. Special formulas are needed for the recovering animals.

Without community support, it would be very difficult to save as many lives as this group of dedicated volunteers does every year.

To help offset costs, Wild Kritters is holding its 11th annual basket raffle from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the 3F Conservation Club, 903 Swann Road, Youngstown.

The free-admission event will include animal exhibits, up-close encounters with wildlife and birds of prey, face-painting, food and beverages - oh, and plenty of big-ticket raffles.

Winners need not be present to win. For more information, contact Kathleen at 716-316-9657, Lori at 716-998-8821, or visit www.wildkritters.com.
