Spring has finally arrived in Lewiston and, with it, the 22nd annual Lewiston Family Spring Fling. This event is designed to be a way to celebrate winter's end and the time to renew old friendships (and make new ones).

Spring Fling runs from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Fourth St. The Village of Lewiston Recreation Department sponsors the rain-or-shine event.

The Spring Fling committee has kept all of the fan favorite events this year, and brought in several new ones. The event will open with a Lewiston Kiwanis Club and Lewiston Service Guild one-mile run for youths ages 14 and under. Registration will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Onondaga Street side of the Red Brick. The race will start at 12:30 p.m. It is all on flat ground.

Race shirts will be given to the first 100 registered youth. Each participant must fill out an application form, and a parent's signature is necessary. Parents can run the course with the younger runners. Awards will be given out in age categories.

There is no fee for the race. Race shirts are courtesy of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, the Lewiston Service Guild, Sevenson Environmental Services, WTS and Stuart Sports.

Starting at 1 p.m., there will be a street art contest for all school-aged youth. The theme for this year is "Music." Chalk will be provided. The competition will be judged at approximately 3 p.m.

A basket auction will be held from 1-3:30 p.m. A wide selection of prizes is available - from tickets to the jet boat, Artpark, Maid of the Mist, Old Fort Niagara, local college athletics and Castellani Art Museum to a variety of prizes for children and adults.

Other activities at Spring Fling include a photo booth, a petting zoo, mini- golf, face painting, balloon sculpture and Bounce-n-Around bounce house.

At the Spring Fling, there is the community tradition of "bring a dessert to pass." Hot dogs and drinks will be provided at no charge.

The event is open to all. There is no charge for the events.
