The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is partnering with Grand Island Central School District for a COVID-19 vaccine clinic from 2-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25. Organizers will offer Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine; if supply is available, Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be offered to people ages 18 and older.

Pinnacle Golf Tourney benefits Grand Island organizations

Pinnacle Travel hosted its Pinnacle Island 2021 Golf Tourney benefit on Aug. 13 at the Beaver Island golf course on Grand Island. A fundraiser to assist the Neighbors Foundation of Grand Island and other local groups, the golf outing saw 156 golfers form 38 teams participating. With a 20% increase from the previous week's total of 811, a steady increase in new COVID-19 cases continues.

Following last week's action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to amend to the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the Erie County Department of Health will provide a third dose for certain people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised due to a medical condition or receipt of immunosuppressive medications or treatments.

UB to implement indoor masking requirement starting Aug. 3

The Erie County Department of Health has confirmed 99 new COVID-19 cases for July 29, resulting in 496 new COVID-19 cases within the past seven days. Based on The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicators for community transmission, Erie County is now considered to have "substantial" COVID-19 transmission, with a case rate of 54 new cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days.

Relay For Life goes on, undeterred by weather

The soaking rainfall, the blustery winds, and even a tornado warning on July 17 changed Relay For Life, but the event went on as scheduled. The changes included the cancellation of the car show and the fire performance. Survivors were still offered free meals, the basket raffle attracted a crowd, the wheel of chance still spun, and people purchased tickets for the 50-50 raffle.

Albright-Knox Public Art Initiative debuts 'Works, from Home' mural project

In April 2020, the Albright-Knox's Public Art Initiative asked 16 local artists to respond to the initial lockdown requirements of the pandemic. To build community spirit, the museum sent artmaking materials to these artists at their home studios, and they worked to produce a 16-piece collaborative mural. The piece, now located at 43 W. Chippewa St., "speaks to individual and collective experiences of the pandemic."
