Building maintenance and management program teacher Mike Carney started his students off this year with the basics of hand and power tools. The Niagara Career and Technical Education Center students focused heavily on safety and proper use.

“As the year progressed, the students gained skills in various fields and seemed to really enjoy the hands-on work,” Carney said.

The students used those skills to construct three sheds.

“We put all the skills we learned in class, like framing, roofing, siding and exterior trims,” Carney said. “Incorporating foundational skills like tape measure usage and construction math, the students worked together as a team and built three different sheds as two different classes.”

The class is now auctioning off the three sheds on Auctions International at https://www.auctionsinternational.com/auction/37540. Carney said he is hoping they make enough to cover the costs of the sheds so they can build more next year.

“The students did a great job at the construction of them and they are really proud of their work,” he said. “I think whoever purchases them will be pleased. They can definitely contact me at [email protected] if they have any questions.”
